The Isle of Purbeck

There are all sorts of Activity breaks that can be enjoyed in the Isle of Purbeck. Technically a peninsula, the Isle of Purbeck is surrounded on three sides by water. To the north the river Frome, the east Poole Harbour and the south the English Channel and covers an area of about 60 miles. There are four distinct natural regions all ideally suited for varied activity breaks. The Heath in the north and the Purbeck hills and Wealden Vale in the centre are fantastic for exploring by foot and bicycle, there are many tracks, foot paths and bridal ways to discover as well as a number of world famous attractions to visit including the Tank Museum, Monkey World and the haunting stones of Corfe Castle, just to mention a few. To the south are the Purbeck Downs which is a stunning section of the Jurassic Coastline. Activity breaks here can include rock climbing at various locations, including Dancing Ledge and extreme windsurfing in Kimmeridge bay. For those who prefer to keep their feet firmly on the ground then the Coastal Path is ideal for energetic walks. For accommodation and refreshments there are lots of lovely little villages with traditional thatched pubs and wonderful bed and breakfasts to stay in. This is an enchanted island and visitors will not be disappointed with the wealth of activities to do and things to see.
